Initial Consultation and Spinal Evaluation:
We will begin by reviewing your history and symptoms, determining the onset and location of symptoms, the type of pain (i.e. sharp, dull, burning, throbbing) and the types of activities that make it better or worse. The doctor will then conduct a thorough chiropractic exam, which will assess posture, range of motion, muscle tone, muscle strength and neurological integrity. If indicated, a diagnostic study using our state-of-the-art digital motion x-ray will be conducted in order to identify the underlying source of your condition.
Report of Findings:
The results of the initial consultation and exam will lead to a specific diagnosis, which will be explained by the doctor with the opportunity for you to have any questions answered. The doctor will advise you as to whether or not your condition will likely respond to chiropractic care. If not, the appropriate referral to another health care provider will be made. If you are a good candidate for chiropractic care, an individualized chiropractic treatment plan will be recommended and discussed. If it has been determined that chiropractic can help your condition, you may choose to give it some time to consider your options, or you may opt to receive your first treatment at the end of this visit. The choice is yours.
Our first objective is to get you out of pain as quickly as possible and back to normal everyday activities. The doctor will use gentle and specific adjustments to your spine to remove the pressure from the pinched nerves that are the source of your pain. The doctor may also work with specific pressure points in the body that are causing tension within the body and thereby contributing to your pain. Recommendations for daily living, such as which activities to avoid as well as which specific exercises will accelerate your healing, will be given.
Spinal Correction and Strengthening:
During this phase of care, we work to really address the postural deviations which create a vulnerability to spinal degeneration and injury. Without addressing these spinal alignment issues, it is likely that the pain you had experienced will become a recurrent problem and potentially lead to spinal degeneration. Just like a car that is not in proper alignment, this spinal misalignment leads to uneven wear and tear within the body over time. Beyond simply addressing the symptom of pain, we will now work to actually correct the misalignments within the spine through postural re-education adjustments and home exercises prescribed specifically for you to address your unique postural vulnerabilities.
